A genuine Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy zoomorphic buckle, discovered by a metal detectorist on the Isle of Wight, England, and recorded by the UK Portable Antiquities Scheme.
This ARTEFACT design turns a real late Anglo-Saxon buckle into a bold museum-meets-streetwear piece for people who value the story more than the trophy.
THE STORY BEHIND THE FIND
This buckle dates to c. AD 1000–1100, spanning the late Anglo-Saxon to early medieval period. The PAS record describes it as a complete single-looped zoomorphic buckle of copper alloy, made in a Ringerike-style form with a D-shaped frame and its original pin still present.
The outer edge carries a projecting knop shaped like the snout of a stylised beast, while the inner corners show rear-facing beaks or mouths with pellet eyes. It is a compact but characterful object, combining function with animal-inspired ornament in a way that feels unmistakably early medieval.
THE DESIGN
Built in the ARTEFACT Neon series format, the print combines a large central artefact image, vivid neon atmosphere, bold period lettering, field-tag styling, and UK PAS registration marks.
Printed text on the design:
“ANGLO-SAXON ENGLAND”
“LOST IN ANCIENT BRITAIN / FOUND BY TODAY’S DETECTORISTS”
“FIELD TAG: FIND ID 478603”
“REGISTERED WITH THE UK PAS”
