A genuine Roman gold lunular earring, discovered by a metal detectorist in Stagsden, Bedfordshire, England, and recorded by the UK Portable Antiquities Scheme.

This ARTEFACT design transforms a real archaeological find into a museum-meets-streetwear piece for people who value the story more than the trophy.

THE STORY BEHIND THE FIND
This Roman lunular earring dates to c. AD 50–150. Its decorative element is formed from a crescent-shaped sheet of gold, bordered with rilled wire and finished with small gold beads at the terminals. The inner field is decorated with delicate filigree spirals. Originally, the spirals held spherical green glass beads — one survives intact and a fragment of another remains.

The attachment is made from a curved strip of gold, soldered to the back of the plate and supporting a hooked wire ring. This elegant jewellery type is associated with Roman personal adornment in Britain and is classified as a lunular ear-ring.

Found on cultivated land by metal detector, this piece later qualified as Treasure and was acquired by the British Museum.

THE DESIGN
Built in the “A Fragment of Time” format, the print combines a bold title, central artefact artwork, technical measurements, a UK location marker, a vertical detectorist badge, and a catalogue-style data panel.
