A genuine Anglo-Saxon silver disc-on-bow brooch with garnet inlays, discovered by a metal detectorist as part of a Kentish grave-goods assemblage near Maidstone, Kent, England, and recorded by the UK Portable Antiquities Scheme.

THE STORY BEHIND THE FIND
This Anglo-Saxon assemblage dates to c. AD 575–625, in the late 6th to early 7th century. The PAS record describes it as a group of grave-goods probably belonging to an Anglo-Saxon Kentish woman. The assemblage included two silver disc-on-bow brooches with garnet inlays, two silver pins, a gilded silver disc brooch with garnets, buckles, rivets, silver fragments, a glass bead, and other associated objects.

The brooch featured in this design belongs to one of the most visually powerful parts of the assemblage: silver jewellery decorated with garnet settings, gold foil, filigree, and early medieval Style I ornament. These were not ordinary objects. They were personal, symbolic, and deeply connected to identity, status, dress, and burial practice in Anglo-Saxon Kent.

The find was designated of national importance and submitted for consideration as Treasure.

THE DESIGN
Built in the “Where Earth Keeps Legends” format, the print combines a large period header, catalogue-style information panels, a UK location marker, decorative early medieval knotwork elements, and the detectorist badge:
“FOUND WITH A METAL DETECTOR”
